Inside Weekday Adventures: Full-Time Baja Life, YouTube, and Remote Travel
01) Before we jump into the main questions, could you start by telling our readers a bit about yourselves? Who are Weekday Adventures?
We’re Meagan and James—nature lovers born and raised in the Southwest. In 2022, we turned our passion for outdoor adventures and remote camping into a full-time lifestyle. With our two pups, Riley and Charlie, we hit the road in our 16-foot Lance travel trailer, towed by our trusty 5th Gen 4Runner (Fiona).
One trip to Baja California, and we were hooked. These days, we spend most of our time exploring the peninsula—falling deeper in love with its sea, beaches, mountains, and vibrant community.
James is the fixer and problem-solver. Meagan is the planner and motivator. Together, we started documenting our journey on YouTube as a creative outlet and a way to document our full-time adventures. We never imagined the incredible community we’d find along the way.
02) Let’s start with Baja—what drew you to explore that part of Mexico, and how does it compare to other places you’ve traveled to?
Growing up in Southern California and Arizona, we’ve always felt a deep connection to Mexican culture—especially the laid-back charm and warm, welcoming spirit of Baja California. James spent childhood vacations in Cabo San Lucas and San Felipe, even declaring he’d move there when he turned 18.
And honestly? Nothing compares to Baja. From the stark, windswept desert of Baja Norte to the hidden white-sand beaches of Baja Sur, we’re endlessly drawn to the magic of this peninsula. There’s a timelessness here—a freedom in the simplicity, the lack of infrastructure, the heartfelt hospitality, and the joy of just being. And of course, the tacos. Always the tacos.
03) What was your most memorable or unexpected experience while traveling in Baja? Any stories that didn’t make it into the videos?
One of our most magical and unforgettable moments in Baja California Sur was an up-close encounter with three humpback whales. After positioning our small inflatable boat just offshore from two converging pods, three whales broke off and began circling us—curious and calm. Then, in a breathtaking moment, they dove directly beneath our boat, surfacing to take their final breaths just feet away.
It didn’t make it into a Weekday Adventures video—we’d taken a filming break at the time—but we can’t wait to share the footage when we return. It’s a memory we’ll carry with us forever.

04) Your channel has such a chill vibe—what inspired you to start Weekday Adventures and how has the YouTube journey evolved for you over time?
We started Weekday Adventures by filming our off-road and overlanding trips—just for fun. James was inspired to pick up the camera after watching some incredible content creators, and we quickly realized that filming added a whole new layer of creativity and enjoyment to our 4×4 adventures.
We chose the name Weekday Adventures because, well… we’re not big fans of crowds. You’ll almost always find us out on the trails when everyone else is at work, making the most of those quiet, wide-open weekdays.
Our channel evolved quickly from there. Not only did we hit the road full-time, but we also started actually speaking on camera. As we got more comfortable, our audience began to grow—and now, we’re even recognized in Baja California, which still blows our minds.
From the beginning, our goal has been simple: to be ourselves, share our journey, and hopefully inspire a few adventures along the way.
05) Let’s talk about your camper setup—how do you power everything off-grid? Are you running solar, batteries, or something else?
To keep everything powered up, we run a 200-watt solar panel on the camper roof, paired with a 100 amp-hour lithium battery and a 1,000-watt inverter. For those cloudy days or shaded campsites, we also carry a 200-watt folding solar panel to keep things charged and running smoothly. And for worst-case scenarios, we’ve got a Honda generator as backup.
06) Why did you choose a travel camper over a traditional van setup? What are the biggest advantages and trade-offs you’ve noticed?
First and foremost, we LOVE our 4Runner, and there was no way we were giving her up. That said, we explored all our options and ultimately landed on a small, lightweight travel trailer. It’s been the perfect setup: we get to keep our beloved 4Runner for exploring while having a cozy home base we can unhook and return to wherever we roam.

07) What does a typical day look like for you when you’re on the road filming an episode? How much time goes into shooting and editing?
Oh boy. Filming days are usually long—fun, but definitely not without a few minor disagreements along the way. We’ve learned that the more fun we’re having, the better the footage turns out. We typically spend half a day to a full day capturing whatever adventure we’re on, and then comes the editing… which all depends on how much footage James has to sift through. On average, editing a single 20-minute video takes about six hours.
08) You make living on the road look smooth—but what’s one behind-the-scenes challenge about van life that people might not realize?
People are often amazed by the logistics of living on the road full-time, but we don’t mind the challenges. Finding camp, sourcing water, refilling propane, and making long-distance grocery runs are just part of the lifestyle. We’ve traded convenience for freedom, new experiences, and—most importantly—time together.
That said, one of the biggest and most unexpected challenges? Trash. We’ve hauled garbage bags all over town searching for friendly dumpsters and legal places to unload. It’s not glamorous, but it’s all part of the adventure.
09) What gear or upgrades have made the biggest difference for your comfort or workflow while traveling—especially in remote spots like Baja?
Upgrading to a Nature’s Head composting toilet was hands-down one of the best decisions we’ve made. It saves us a ton of water (which matters when you only carry 26 gallons), and we don’t have to dump nearly as often as we would with a traditional black tank. That means we can stay off-grid longer—especially in Baja California, where beachside boondocking is our favorite way to live.
10) How do you stay connected for work, uploads, or navigation when you’re off-grid or far from cities? Any tech hacks?
Starlink has been a game-changer—and honestly, the only way we’re able to travel the peninsula the way we do. Between remote work and uploading YouTube videos, we couldn’t camp nearly as remotely without it. We originally relied on a signal booster and hotspot, but quickly realized that limited us to areas with cell service—and let’s just say, there are a lot of stunning beaches in Baja California with zero bars.
Funny enough, during our first year, we were one of the only travelers with Starlink and quickly made friends with fellow campers who needed a connection. By the following year, it felt like everyone had Starlink.
11) Finally, what advice would you give to someone dreaming about doing what you do—living out of a camper and sharing the journey on YouTube?
As cliché as it sounds, our biggest advice is: just do it. And if you’re in a position to make the leap—do it sooner rather than later. Life on the road definitely comes with its own set of challenges, but we’ve never looked back. We absolutely love it.
YouTube has been a great way for us to document and share our adventures. Our advice there? Take the pressure off yourself however you can. We’re often our own toughest critics, and that can really hold us back. Social media is full of curated perfection—but the more you lean into your own authenticity, the more you’ll connect with a community that supports you.
