When I started blacking out the interior and exterior of my 4Runner, I was looking for simple upgrades that would make the interior look more finished without spending a lot of money. This JeCar A/C switch panel cover was one of those upgrades. I’ve had it installed for about a year now, and for around $30, I’m really happy with it.
Why I Bought It
The factory A/C control panel has a silver finish that didn’t really fit the all-black look I was going for. Rather than replacing the entire panel, I found this JeCar cover and decided to give it a try.
It’s a pretty simple concept: it’s an ABS trim piece that goes directly over the existing A/C switch panel and gives it a matte black, carbon-fiber-style finish. For about $30, it was a no-brainer.
Installation
Installation is very straightforward. The cover attaches using the included double-sided 3M adhesive. Before installing it, I cleaned the factory panel thoroughly and made sure the surface was ready for the adhesive. Once installed, it stays firmly in place.
After a year, I haven’t had any issues with the cover lifting, shifting, or coming loose.
How It Has Held Up
This is another one of those inexpensive 4Runner upgrades that has held up better than I expected. The finish still looks good after a year of regular use, and I haven’t had any problems with scratches.
The matte black finish also makes it easy to keep clean. A quick wipe is usually all it needs. Because this is an area that gets touched regularly, I was particularly interested in seeing how it would hold up over time. So far, there’s really nothing to complain about.
The Look
For me, the biggest reason to buy this is the appearance. It gives the A/C control area a darker, cleaner, more modern look and fits nicely with the rest of a blacked-out 4Runner interior. The matte finish is also a nice touch. It doesn’t have the overly shiny appearance that some inexpensive interior trim pieces can have.
It’s a small modification, but when you’re gradually changing the look of the interior, details like this make a difference.
Is It Worth $30?
I think so. It’s a simple piece of interior trim, but it’s well made, the adhesive has held up for a full year, and the finish still looks good.
For about $30, it’s an inexpensive way to change the appearance of the A/C control panel while also adding some protection against scratches from things like fingernails and everyday use.
If you’re blacking out the interior of a 5th-generation 4Runner, this is an easy upgrade I’d consider.
Would I Buy It Again?
Absolutely! After a year of use, I have no complaints with it. It’s good quality, looks good, stays firmly attached, and costs relatively little. And, for around $30, it’s a no-brainer.
