Looking for an unforgettable off-the-grid adventure in Baja California? Our recent camping trip to Punta Baja and off-road journey to the hidden fishing village of San Antonio delivered everything we love about Baja—breathtaking coastal views, rugged terrain, friendly locals (and dogs!), and the thrill of exploration.

Camping at Punta Baja: Coastal Bliss & A Very Friendly Dog
We kicked off our adventure by setting up camp at Punta Baja, a serene coastal spot known for its dramatic cliffs, crashing waves, and peaceful seclusion. As always, we were greeted by “Güero,” the friendliest pitbull in all of Mexico. If you’ve ever camped in Punta Baja, you probably know him—loyal, happy, and a local legend among travelers.
Waking up to the sound of the ocean and the salty sea breeze is what Baja dreams are made of. The tranquility of Punta Baja offers a perfect disconnect from modern life and a deeper connection to nature.
Dirt Road to San Antonio: 30 Kilometers of Scenic Off-Roading
The next morning, fueled by coffee and wanderlust, we embarked on a 30-kilometer dirt road adventure to the remote fishing outpost of San Antonio. This off-the-beaten-path gem offers a raw, unfiltered look at coastal Baja—far removed from tourist hotspots.
Our goal? To search for fossilized sea shells rumored to be scattered across the area. Though we didn’t find any this time, the journey itself was absolutely worth it. The drive was packed with jaw-dropping coastal vistas, rugged desert landscapes, and a few unexpected surprises along the way (including a surprise tidepool and a pod of dolphins offshore!).
