Latest Contributor for Camping for Women: Where to Start Camping With No Gear

I’m excited to share my latest contributor article for Camping for Women: “I Want to Go Camping, But I Have No Gear. Where Do I Start?”

One of the biggest things that can stop someone from trying camping is the feeling that they need to buy a mountain of gear before they can even get started. A tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, stove, cooler, chairs, lanterns… it can seem like a pretty expensive hobby before you’ve even spent your first night outside.

But it really doesn’t have to be that way.

You Don’t Need Everything to Start Camping

For my latest article, I wanted to tackle that question from a practical perspective: what do you actually need for your first camping trip?

The answer is probably less than you think.

You can start with the basics, use things you already have at home, borrow gear from friends or family, and gradually figure out what works for you. There’s also a lot to be said for getting out there first and learning what you actually need rather than buying gear because someone on the internet says you need it.

That’s something I’ve learned through my own camping experiences. Over time, you figure out which pieces of gear genuinely make camping easier and more comfortable—and which things just end up taking up space in the 4Runner.

In the article, I go through some of the basics for getting started, along with a few things I wish more new campers knew before spending a lot of money on equipment.

If you’ve been thinking about trying camping but don’t know where to begin, this one is for you.

Thanks again to Camping for Women for having me back as a contributor. I’m enjoying the opportunity to write about camping and the outdoors from a different perspective, and I’m looking forward to sharing more.
