Meet Alex: The Outdoor Enthusiast Behind Miles and Hikes
From Buenos Aires to the American West and Beyond— One Woman’s Journey into the Wild

Hello, fellow outdoor lovers and road trip fanatics! I’m Alejandra, but in the U.S., everyone calls me Alex. I’m the creator of Miles and Hikes, a YouTube channel and blog dedicated to solo adventures, scenic hikes, and unforgettable road trips.

How It All Started: From Argentina to the Open Roads of America

I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a city full of life, culture, and noise. But some of my most treasured memories are far from the city’s hustle—each summer, my family would pile into our vintage green Ford station wagon (yes, straight out of the 80s!) and road trip over 1,000 miles south to Patagonia. The endless skies, glassy lakes, and jagged mountains planted the seed for a lifelong passion for the outdoors.

It wasn’t until a solo trip to Europe in 2001, visiting France, Belgium, and Ireland, that I truly caught the travel bug. The freedom of exploring on my own was both empowering and addictive. One year later, at the age of 25, I packed my bags for good and moved to California.

Falling in Love with California’s Wild Landscapes

What drew me to California? Simple: the weather and the landscapes. Gone was the sticky humidity of Buenos Aires. In its place, I found sunshine, sea breezes, desert heat, and snow-capped peaks—all within a few hours’ drive. I instantly felt at home in California’s dramatic and diverse natural beauty.

As someone who thrives on movement and exploration, California was the perfect fit. Whether it was driving along Highway 1, camping in the Eastern Sierra, or mountain trails in the Los Angeles Forest, I felt a deep pull to be outdoors and document those experiences.

The Birth of Miles and Hikes

The idea for Miles and Hikes came to me during a solo cross-country road trip from Los Angeles to Georgia and back. Somewhere along that long, soul-searching drive, I envisioned a platform to share my travels, my favorite hikes, and helpful tips for others who want to explore solo.

I had no background in video editing. But I didn’t let that stop me. I hit “record,” learned as I went, and slowly built my channel, one episode at a time. The name says it all—Miles and Hikes represents the miles I’ve driven across states and borders, and the countless hikes that ground me and remind me of who I am.

When the Outdoors Became My Medicine

In recent years, the outdoors has taken on an even deeper meaning in my life. After a long and challenging recovery from a post viral thyroid issue that started mid 2022—a condition that left me dealing with anxiety, mood swings, and overall physical and mental uncertainty for months—I found that time in nature became more than just a passion. It became a lifeline. Hiking, camping, and long road trips helped me reconnect to my body, rebuild strength, and find moments of clarity during a time when so much felt out of my control. Miles and Hikes is not only about adventure—it’s also about healing, resilience, and finding joy in small, powerful experiences outdoors.

Balancing Tech Life with Outdoor Adventures

In addition to my content creation journey, I also work full-time in the fast-paced software industry. It’s a job I’m grateful for, but it can be stressful and demanding. That’s why having a creative outlet like Miles and Hikes is not just a passion project—it’s a form of self-care.

Spending time outdoors is how I reset. It’s where I find inspiration, peace, and a deep sense of purpose. Whether I’m backpacking through the Mojave, chasing waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest, or discovering a hidden desert trail, I bring my camera along to capture the magic.
