4Runner Backrest Mats Review

HOW DO I RATE THIS?

If you use your 4Runner for camping, road trips, hauling gear, or anything else that involves putting dirty, heavy, or potentially damaging stuff in the cargo area, protecting the backs of the rear seats is something you don’t want to overlook.

I bought these Ecarzo Backrest Mats for my 4Runner specifically for that reason. I’ve now had it for about two years, and it has stayed installed essentially the entire time. After all that use, I’m still completely happy with it.

Fit and Coverage

The fit is excellent. The mats are specifically designed for the 5-seat Toyota 4Runner, and they fit the rear seatbacks very well.

More importantly, they provide a layer of protection over the factory fabric that has held up extremely well. The factory carpet on the seatbacks still looks great because the Ecarzo mats take all of the abuse instead.

The segmented design is also useful because the rear seats can still be folded independently. You don’t have to remove the entire system just because you need to fold one side down.

Installation

Installation couldn’t be much easier. The mats attach with Velcro, so there are no tools, complicated hardware, or permanent modifications involved. Installing everything took me only a couple of minutes.

The Velcro has also held up perfectly. Despite having the mats installed for roughly two years and using the 4Runner constantly, I’ve never had an issue with them coming loose or shifting around. Once they’re installed, they stay where they’re supposed to.

Real-World Protection

This is really where these mats have proven their value. I use my 4Runner for pretty much everything, as a daily driver and including camping and hauling gear. That means the cargo area regularly gets loaded with equipment that isn’t exactly friendly to a fabric-covered seatback.

Camping gear in particular can be heavy, dirty, or have sharp edges that could easily scratch or damage the factory material. The Ecarzo mats provide a protective barrier between all of that gear and the original seatbacks.

After two years of use, I’m very happy with how well they’ve protected the factory fabric. They also give me a lot less reason to worry about putting something dirty or rough in the back of the 4Runner. That’s exactly what I wanted from them.

Durability

After two years of constant use, I have no complaints about durability. The mats are sturdy and have held up very well. They haven’t given me any problems, and I’ve never had to replace anything or deal with the mats deteriorating.

For something that’s been installed and used continuously for a couple of years, that’s a pretty good indication that they’re doing their job.

Cleaning

Cleaning them is straightforward. When they get dirty, I can remove the mats and wash them or simply wipe them down. There haven’t been any issues with cleaning them, which is especially useful when they’re being used for camping and other activities where dirt and debris are inevitable.

Instead of trying to clean the factory fabric on the seatbacks, I can just clean the mats.

What I Like

The biggest thing I like about these mats is that they simply work. They’re easy to install, they stay in place, they fit well, and they protect the factory seatbacks exactly as intended. After two years, I haven’t found anything that I dislike about them.
I also like that I don’t have to think about them. They’ve been sitting in the 4Runner constantly for the past couple of years, and they’ve never caused me a problem.

Would I Buy Them Again?

Absolutely. If I needed another set for another 4Runner, I would buy them again without hesitation. They’ve done exactly what I bought them to do: protect the factory seatbacks from the dirt, gear, scratches, and general abuse that comes with actually using the 4Runner.

For me, that’s the biggest endorsement. I’ve been using them constantly for two years and still have nothing negative to say about them.

Final Thoughts

The Ecarzo Backrest Mat isn’t a particularly exciting accessory, but it’s one of those products that makes a lot of sense if you actually use your 4Runner.

After two years of continuous use, mine still fit perfectly, stay firmly attached, and have protected the factory seatbacks extremely well. Installation takes only a few minutes, cleaning is easy, and I haven’t experienced any shifting, loosening, or durability problems.

If you’re regularly putting camping equipment, tools, outdoor gear, or anything else that could dirty or damage the factory seatbacks into your 4Runner, these have been completely worth it for me.
